The Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (TACC) has served the automotive industry in Tasmania since 1928.

There had always been a long standing and mutually supportive relationship between TACC and the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC).

TACC successfully lobbied state government on behalf of members for many years, but times were changing and in 1999 TACC and VACC were amalgamated. This merger offered members a more diverse range of services, while still maintaining a Tasmanian perspective on local issues.

Today we are dedicated to the promotion, representation and preservation of member businesses to local, state and federal governments, as well as the media, consumers and the community.

New job role for Electric Vehicle Technician

3 August 2023

VACC is working with its Motor Trade Association partners in a dialogue with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for the development of a potential new automotive industry job role called Electric Vehicle Technician.

In Australia, the Federal Government classifies and codes almost all occupations, and this is what forms the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO).

Recently, VACCs national automotive body, the Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) worked with the state associations to build a new qualification for electric vehicle technicians, and this is now endorsed as a national automotive qualification. Where state training authorities have designated this as an apprenticeship pathway, a person can begin their apprenticeship training in this new role.
