The Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (TACC) has served the automotive industry in Tasmania since 1928.

There had always been a long standing and mutually supportive relationship between TACC and the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC).

TACC successfully lobbied state government on behalf of members for many years, but times were changing and in 1999 TACC and VACC were amalgamated. This merger offered members a more diverse range of services, while still maintaining a Tasmanian perspective on local issues.

Today we are dedicated to the promotion, representation and preservation of member businesses to local, state and federal governments, as well as the media, consumers and the community.

Progress in response to the Independent Review

3 August 2023

The Motor Vehicle Insurance and Repair Industry Code of Conduct Administration Committee has detailed progress made in response to the Dr Michael Schaper’s independent review received in May this year.

In a media release issued by the Motor Trades Association of Australia and the Insurance Council of Australia, the Code of Conduct Committee outlined actions taken in response to the 15 review recommendations.

Three priorities have already been identified in consultation, including:

  • A rewrite of the MVIRI Code of Conduct to improve readability and accessibility
  • Considering options for enhancing Code governance
  • Efforts towards greater promotion and education of the Code, as well as engagement with stakeholders.

Positive discussion has commenced in relation to the first two priorities, with further meetings planned to progress this significant body of work the media release said.
