End of life tyre scheme looks overseas

21 July 2023

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) CEO, Lina Goodman is looking overseas for inspiration into how the scheme can generate more traction.

Established almost a decade ago, the voluntary product stewardship scheme seeks to develop solutions for end-of-life tyres by transforming a waste product into a useful commodity and reducing the environmental harm caused by the illegal dumping of old tyres.

As a voluntary scheme and without the momentum of more participants, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission concluded the scheme had run out of air.

A look to New Zealand, British Columbia and France provides inspiration for TSA and a way to move the scheme forward.

Looking at the success and failures of international schemes allows Australia to cherry pick the best solution for the nation.

Members can apply for TSA accreditation on its website.
