Christmas wishes

23 December 2022

It’s that time of year again when I get out the pencil and write my wish list to Santa.

So, this is what I would like for Christmas this year...

  1. Jobs. Everyone who wants a job can find employment.
  2. Business. All businesses – especially small businesses – get back on their feet because we can’t do without them.
  3. Safety. Everyone looks after their family and friends this season, at home, at work, everywhere.
  4. Government. Business and employment get a boost because the government lowers the payroll tax threshold.
  5. Youth. Every young person has access to a decent job, because we all value training and apprenticeships.
  6. Roads. This one is two-fold – I’m wishing for government to kick-start initiatives that will make our Tassie roads safer, and a fair road user system for everyone, whether driving an internal combustion engine car or electric vehicle.
  7. Technology. Flying cars become a reality, but maybe not this year...
  8. Driving. Everyone inspects their tyres, restraints, lights and brakes before heading off on holidays, or has someone do it for them.
  9. Fun. Oscar Piastri wins at his debut Aussie Formula 1 race at Albert Park in 2023.
  10. Dreams. Last, but certainly not least, I’d like a 1970 Ford Lotus Cortina MkII GT – a white one, with a green stripe.

However you’re celebrating (or not), enjoy the break and please be careful and considerate on the road. Then you’ll really make my wishes come true.

Words: TACC State Manager Bruce McIntosh. As featured in the Mercury Friday 23 December 2022.
