Road User Charging investigated

30 May 2018

A consulting team made up of final year Melbourne University commerce students joined VACC recently to work on an important industry issue. Road User Charging was chosen as a research topic, as government revenue generation from traditional channels, such as fuel excise, will be affected by the uptake of electric and more fuel efficient vehicles. The team delivered an outstanding report and presentation on this critical issue facing both state and federal governments.

The VACC/Melbourne University program is competitive, with students having to apply and undertake an interview process to gain entrance. Over a 12-week period, the team, known as Marius Group, conducted in-depth analysis related to the current status of Road User Charging in Australia. The program came to completion with a one-hour presentation to VACC senior executives at VACC House.

The program highlights the benefit of university collaboration and engaging with dynamic and enthusiastic students on real industry problems.
