20 October 2022

Chamber members attended an electric vehicle (EV) panel event at VACC House on Thursday 20 October 2022.

Attendees heard from VACC President Mark Awramenko, VACC CEO Geoff Gwilym and MyCar Managing Director Adam Pay – leading industry figures who shared insights from respective fact-finding missions to Europe and the UK regarding the adoption of zero-emission vehicles.

VACC panel representatives discussed key points raised in Zero and low-emission vehicles: Insights from Europe. The report summarises findings from a recent EV delegation (attended by VACC and four equivalent motor trades associations, NSW, SA/NT, WA and Queensland) to Norway, Sweden, the UK and Germany.

With the uptake of electric vehicles in Australia steadily growing, to ensure the transition is as smooth a ride as possible, Australia must listen and learn from overseas automotive industries much further down the EV track.

Facilitated by VACC Lead Strategy and Policy, Dr Imogen Reid, the panel also discussed government policy and the likely impact of increased uptake on the existing Australian automotive industry.
