EPA pilot program update

22 July 2021

The Chamber has released the initial findings from the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) pilot program conducted with VACC members.

Positive findings:

  • Almost all businesses have good housekeeping (i.e. the sites are tidy, free of litter and do not have loose wastes on-site)
  • 85 percent of sites had good or acceptable maintenance of equipment
  • 71 percent of the sites had acceptable or good risk management leadership.

VACC's OHS&E Unit reminds members that EPA has resources available to assist business owners, including liquid storage and handling and responding to harm caused by pollution guidance.

The EPA pilot program was developed to help prepare industry for the new Victorian environmental regulations that came into play on 1 July 2021. Participating small businesses were offered free expert advice about managing risks under the new environment protection laws.
