Auto is open campaign launched

7 May 2020

The automotive industry remains open and ready to keep millions of Australian motorists on the road. That’s the message from the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC), which has launched Auto is open, a multi-media community awareness initiative.

Auto is open has been launched in response to motorist confusion and VACC member frustration in regard to government restrictions around business and consumer behaviour, especially with regard to the automotive industry.

“Many motorists have been asking if automotive is open. I say categorically that it is,” said VACC CEO, Geoff Gwilym.

“Car, motorcycle and farm machinery dealerships; automotive repair workshops; body repair businesses; tyre dealerships: everything automotive is open – with the exception of public vehicle auctions – and thousands of businesses remain ready to service the needs of motorists.”

VACC’s extensive marketing initiative includes a two-month advertising campaign, designed to engage motorists across a variety of mediums including:

In addition, VACC has developed material for members that allows them to market themselves with their own Auto is open messages. Some of the assets include:

“VACC-member businesses have access to the Chamber’s comprehensive suite of information and support services, meaning they are up-to-date with the latest safety measures, including correct hygiene procedures and social distancing measures,” reassured Mr Gwilym.

“While the Chamber supports all measures being put in place to protect Australians, it has proved necessary for industry to make it clear to motorists: We are open for business.”
