Coronavirus: Land tax deferral

Land owners due to pay 2020 land tax that have at least one non-residential property and total taxable landholdings below $1 million have the option of deferring their 2020 land tax payment until after 31 December 2020.

Who is eligible for a deferral?
Landowners that have at least one taxable non-residential* property and total taxable landholdings below $1 million.

*Non-residential property includes:

  • Commercial property,
  • Industrial property, and
  • Vacant land (excluding residential vacant land).


How do I know if I am eligible?
The State Revenue Office will directly contact all eligible taxpayers.

How long can I defer payment?
2020 land tax payments can be deferred until after 1 January 2021, and will need to be paid in full by 31 March 2021.

What if I have already paid my 2020 land tax?
Landowners can request a return of the tax paid. The State Revenue Office will contact all eligible landowners and provide further information, including about how to request the return of your payment.
