Stormwater and protecting waterways

15 September 2023

Officers from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria visited mechanical workshops, auto recycling yards, car dealerships and other small to medium-sized businesses in the Bundoora Industrial Zone this week focusing on stormwater pollution prevention.

Inspection teams from EPA Victoria, Banyule City Council and Melbourne Water visited 31 premises and provided 73 pieces of compliance advice to the business operators, with five enforceable regulatory notices issued.

The inspection teams advised these businesses to educate themselves on their responsibilities with waste disposal, liquid storage and handling, and stormwater management.

To understand where waste goes and the controls you need to keep spills and overflows contained on your property, and for proper clean-up and disposal controls, refer to the EPA Victoria stormwater fact sheet.
