VACC CEO Geoff Gwilym took centre stage at the APRAA 2024 Conference on the Gold Coast today, talking to a report on end-of-life vehicles in Australia.
His presentation highlighted the urgent need for sustainable practices in automotive recycling and set the tone for industry-wide discussions.
The Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA), has today released "The Outlook for End-of-Life Vehicles in Australia" report. This comprehensive study, conducted in collaboration with the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), outlines strategies to enhance vehicle recycling, reduce landfill waste, and prevent interstate leakage.
Key focus areas include:
- Improved material recovery rates
- Co-regulatory product stewardship scheme
- National consistency in recycling practices
Matthew Hobbs, MTAA CEO, emphasised the significance of the report's findings:
"Our research reveals the necessity of modernising Australia's vehicle dismantling and recycling processes. The proposed stewardship scheme will not only streamline operations across the industry but also address the unique challenges we face. This is a pivotal moment for us to enhance recovery efforts and reduce environmental impact as the industry moves towards a more sustainable future."
