Vehicle Identity Validation expands

25 JANUARY 2024

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is expanding its Vehicle Identity Validation (VIV) scheme, which will deliver environmental and safety benefits for the Victorian community. VACC has long advocated for more service providers given declining numbers over the past years, and long appointment wait times.

Invitations are now open to current Licensed Vehicle Testers (LVTs) in the outlined preferred location zones who can satisfy the evaluation criteria. The DTP needs up to 20 new VIV centres to meet the expected demand in locations across metropolitan Melbourne and rural Victoria.

The VIV scheme provides for a vehicle to be assessed and recorded on the Written-off Vehicles Register (WOVR) as a Repairable Write-Off (RWO). The assessment process confirms the vehicle satisfies the following objectives:

  • The vehicle ID is original
  • Repairs are to manufacturer standards
  • Parts proof of purchase.

Applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:

  • The business is within one of the preferred geographic locations specified by the DTP
  • Must have seven years’ LVT experience
  • LVT licensee must show a history of compliance with no sanctions issued within the last 10 years
  • Examining mechanics listed for the LVT licence use the eRWC system.

How to apply

Applicants can find all information, including the preferred location map, offer details, mandatory requirements, evaluation criteria, and VIV authorisation conditions on the Buying for Victoria website.

Applicants need to register their business on the Buying for Victoria website to download the supporting documents and apply.
