ACCC: Agricultural machinery pre-purchase checklist

9 December 2021

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has released an agricultural machinery pre-purchase checklist. This guideline applies to members of the VACC Farm and Industrial Machinery Dealers Association (FIMDA) and Motorcycle Industry Division (MID).

The guideline reminds consumers about important issues before they purchase agricultural machinery. Considerations include the process if a fault develops in their agriculture machinery and clarity on what is an express or extended warranty.

The best practice for dealers is to provide consumers with the ACCC guideline before purchase. Barring this, VACC encourages FIMDA and MID members to include a print-out of the guideline as part of a deal pack, or make it visible to consumers in the dealership.

Dealers should also ensure all their suppliers abide by their legal obligations regarding the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). If not, VACC encourages members to email concerns to the manufacturer and include VACC in any email exchange. The Chamber can communicate with manufacturers on behalf of members if necessary.
