Accelerating Women into Automotive kicks into gear

VACC’s Accelerating Women into Automotive program is full steam ahead, with the first round of participants commencing a two-week intensive at VACC.

Funded by the Apprenticeship Innovation Fund, the program is an initiative of the Victorian Department of Education and Training designed to increase the number of women starting apprenticeships in the automotive industry.

During the next two weeks, first-round participants will hear from leading women working in automotive and attend site visits at different businesses – providing a snapshot of the many career pathways available across industry sectors.

Through the program, participants will:

• Undertake TAFE training, including industry placement
• Gain vehicle maintenance skills
• Increase their employability.

Program activities aim to equip participants with the information and insight needed to make an informed decision about starting an automotive career.

Besides providing participants with opportunities to explore pathways, the program is also an exciting prospect for member-businesses looking for new apprentices.

Businesses providing work placement to program participants receive free diversity training for their employees and, at the end of the work placement, can offer an apprenticeship to their participant. Facilitators provide support throughout the program that continues if participants transition into an apprenticeship, allowing apprentices and host businesses to focus on training.

With the second cohort set to begin in February 2021, VACC encourages member-businesses to register their interest.
