Slow down rules update

29 January 2021

On behalf of Towing Operators Division members, VACC has been lobbying the Victorian Government to have towing operators included in the protections afforded by Road Rule 79A. In addition, the Chamber is calling for tow operators to be able to use magenta warning lights at the scene of an accident or at a roadside tow.

An executive summary of a 2020 Monash University study designed to evaluate the effectiveness of Victoria’s 40km/h slow down rule (Road Rule 79A) is available. VACC is awaiting a copy of the full report, with access to be achieved through a Freedom of Information Request to the government, and will be making it available to members as soon as possible.

The Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021 – 2030 paper, released by Minister Ben Carroll last year, provides an ideal footing for VACC to pursue a review and will form part of the campaign for government budget allocations to fund the action.
