EPA's auto parts recyclers workshop

A large contingent of members from the VACC Automotive Dismantler and Recyclers Division (ADRD) attended the second EPA Victoria workshop, to discuss the EPA Auto Parts Recyclers Guidelines.

The Guidelines are due for release in December 2019, and ADRD members have helped shape how vehicles should be handled by a legitimate auto parts dismantler. 

The key for ADRD is the push to have an end-of-life vehicle declared under Regulation as a waste product.

From an industry perspective, the willingness of the EPA team, headed by Senior Industry Advisor Industry Guidance, Carmel Vlachos, and Industry Guidance Officer, Catherine Do, to listen to ADRD members is to be applauded. They don’t always agree, but they do always listen to the concerns being raised.

This forum is a classic example of industry and government taking a partnered approach.

VACC members will have a chance to preview the final draft of EPA Auto Parts Recyclers Guidelines when available.
