Support for mandatory service/repair info sharing grows

1 February 2019

Australian Labor Party candidate for the Dunkley electorate, Peta Murphy visited VACC members today discussing an important issue affecting all independent automotive workshops: access to repair information.

In the presence of VACC CEO, Geoff Gwilym, Ms Murphy heard first-hand how the lack of repair data was affecting thousands of business owners in the automotive aftermarket sector, nationwide.

But a groundswell of support from politicians for fair access to service and repair information is clearly broadening as the understanding of the situation grows. The tide is clearly turning.

Peta Murphy has made it clear that the Labor Party will mandate fair access to automotive data. This will be a game changer.

“A Labor Government will act on the ACCC recommendation and introduce a mandated scheme that provides all automotive workshops access to the same manufacturer repair information provided to their authorised dealer networks,” Ms Murphy said.

That’s something of which other political parties should take note. Many thousands of automotive business owners and their employees will be voting in the Federal election in only a matter of months and this issue will undoubtedly be on their minds as they enter their respective ballot booths.
